A Product is much more than its physical attributes.
Each year billions of products are sold around the world. From sugary carbonated coloured water to small plastic boxes with glass screens that you see the world through.
- What is coca cola other than sugary carbonated water ?
- What is an iphone other than a plastic box with a glass screen that you can know what is happening in your world.
Coca cola know they are selling much more than a mixture of sugar , water and carbon dioxide with a caramel colour. They are selling hapiness, memories,occassion gel. Apple also know they are selling much more than a plastic nox with a glass screen. They are selling symbols of progress, status
A product is therefore much more than the defination given by phillip kotler: Anything that can be offered to a market for attention,acquisition,use or consumption that might satisfy a want or need.
Look at a birthday cake. As a product,this is sugar,flour, eggs ,flavour mixed together and heated. However, it is much more than that. It is normally surrounded by an occasion shared with loved ones that create memories of a lifetime.
You cannot therefore, just create a product without imagining and communicating the experience around that product.
For a product to be successful and be picked above the rest of the competing products, an entreprenuer really needs to think about the experience offered around the product and find a way of fecundating the imagination of the target consumer around how this product makes them feel, makes them look in social circles.
